Police north of Toronto are searching for a man with an apparent foot fetish after he sexually assaulted four women with his tongue at several tanning salons.
Well-dressed man steals woman’s sock, boot after licking her foot at tanning salon north of Toronto
In the first incident, York Regional Police say a man entered a Bayfield Street tanning salon at 3:15 p.m. Thursday and spoke to a female employee about her footwear. He then dropped down to all fours, grabbed her leg and began licking her foot without her consent, according to police said. The man then fled the scene.
“It’s a serious offence,” Barrie Const. Melanie Turner said. “It’s a sexual assault.”
The suspect is described as white, about 30 years old, weighing 170 pounds, with short reddish-brown hair and a neatly trimmed beard.
According to the Barrie Examiner:
City police say this man also might be responsible for other, similar incidents in Barrie.
Haily MacDonald is with Athena’s Sexual Assault Counselling and Advocacy Centre. Its services are available in Barrie, Alliston, Collingwood, Midland and Orillia.
MacDonald also said these are serious incidents.
“It is sexual assault, the fact that he grabbed a woman’s leg and licked it. She didn’t give him consent to do that,” she said. “It works towards limiting a woman’s mobility.
“We see these actions a lot. We’re talking about a foot fetish. He’s sexualizing a woman’s leg.”
These type of incidents have also been reported to South Simcoe police and York Regional police.
On Wednesday at 5:30 p.m., a man entered Adam and Eve Tanning Salon on Innisfil Beach Road in Alcona.
While being shown a tanning room, a man sexually assaulted the lone female clerk, police said. She was not injured.
A man immediately left the building in an unknown direction.
The suspect is described as white, age 25 to 30, with brown/blond medium-length hair and a brown beard. He was well-groomed, wearing a black pea coat and blue jeans, along with a grey, diamond-patterned sweater.
His image was captured on security footage, police said.
In Richmond Hill at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday, York Regional police say a man entered a tanning salon at Yonge Street and 16th Avenue. He approached a female, asking if he could see her shoe, claiming to be shopping for shoes for a relative.
When she gave him her shoe, the man smelled it and then fled, police said.
On Thursday, just after 11 a.m., a man entered a tanning salon at Yonge Street and Canyon Hill. He approached a female and began asking questions about her boots.
Police say the man then grabbed the female’s leg, removed her boot and sock, and licked her foot without her consent. He then fled with her boot and sock. She was not injured.
MacDonald was asked whether this behaviour is a precursor to more dangerous sexual assaults.
“Whether it’s progressing. . .it went from him grabbing a shoe and running away to him now grabbing a woman’s foot and licking it,” she said.
“We know from experience that if you don’t need consent to be licking a woman’s leg, you’re more than likely not going to be asking consent for doing anything else that could be leading to a more dangerous crime.”
And MacDonald said no physical injuries don’t mean there wasn’t damage done to these women.
“Nobody has been physically hurt, however, psychologically what is that saying to the women in Barrie. The fact that a woman in a tanning salon gets her leg licked,” she said. “That’s what I mean when I speak to limiting mobility.”
